As 2012 draws to a close, the team at JS Daw & Associates is proud to share some highlights from the past year. From the launch of Math Minds, an innovative three-way partnership to enhance early numeracy; to a new office, and a growing staff, 2012 has been a very exciting year for our team.The Launch of Math Minds: This past November, JS Daw & Associates was proud to attend the launch of Math Minds – A Canadian Oil Sands Initiative. Working closely with Canadian Oils Sands, Jocelyne and her team brought together multiple partners to set the foundation for this important collaborative early numeracy initiative.

The new partnership aims to take an innovative approach to early math education. The overall objective is to strengthen numeracy among students in kindergarten to grade six and to help establish Calgary as a centre of excellence in math education. By creating a teachers’ network focused on math and sharing the most recent research on elementary math instruction and student learning, Math Minds strives to deepen teachers’ own understanding of math and math instruction. For students, numeracy is essential for future success in careers such as science and engineering. These disciplines drive innovation and technology development, which are critical to the Canadian economy.Math Minds Partners are: Canadians Oil Sands Limited, the University of Calgary Faculty of Education, Calgary Catholic School District School - St. Rita’s School, JUMP Math, Calgary Public Library and Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary.

In September, Kristina Roberts joined our team to complete a year-long internship. With an education in marketing and communications, one of Kristina’s major roles has been to coordinate social media for JS Daw & Associates. She has become an avid tweeter and has recently begun to curate popular tweets and stories about business-community innovations using Scoop.it. Our New Space:
In May, we moved into new office digs located on the 4

floor of the Hillhurst Building in northwest Calgary. We’ve had fun making the space our own by adding our brand colours and infusing our brand personality – Fresh & Focused; Sophisticated & Professional; Progressive & Innovative; Reputable & Reliable.

The large windows give us a lovely view of downtown, and at this time of year we can watch colours paint the sky for both the sunrise and the sunset! Our address is 301 14

Street NW, Suite 410. The office will be closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day, but friends and colleagues are invited to pop by for a visit during the regular work week. We look forward to welcoming you!
